Around 1850, a stone mason from County Monaghan, Ireland, Bernard McGough (later ‘Gough', pronounced 'goff') and his oldest son Peter came to Galena, IL to earn passage money for his wife, Catherine, and five children who remained in Ireland. By the early 1860s the family had been reunited and began to lay the foundation for what would the Gough Family Farm for generations to come. The barn was originally a dairy barn, and when built in 1913 was the largest in the state. After hosting many of our own family reunions, weddings, and anniversary parties we decided to open to the public in 2019 so that others can enjoy the stunning countryside views and peaceful tranquility of the area. The farm is owned by Bernard and Catherine's great-great granddaughter, Mary, and events are managed by their great-great-great granddaughter, Caitlin.
